BMW has unveiled its first-ever iX4, a fully electric SUV coupé combining distinctive styling, advanced technology and a claimed driving range of up to 514 miles. With UK prices starting at £60,170 and deliveries scheduled for March 2027, the latest addition to BMW’s Neue Klasse family signals a new chapter in premium electric motoring.
The luxury electric vehicle market continues to evolve. BMW’s latest arrival suggests that design and driving experience are becoming just as important as range and performance.
Officially revealed on 8 October 2026, the new BMW iX4 introduces a more expressive interpretation of the manufacturer’s next-generation electric vehicle platform, combining the elevated driving position and practicality of an SUV with the sweeping roofline of a coupé.
The result is a striking new addition to BMW’s growing electric line-up, complete with a panoramic glass roof, redesigned digital cockpit and rapid-charging technology capable of adding up to 240 miles of range in just ten minutes under suitable conditions.
British customers can already place orders, with the first deliveries expected from 6 March 2027.

A New Expression of BMW’s Electric Design
The iX4 is the third model in BMW’s Neue Klasse family, following the iX3 and i3, and introduces a more sculptural design direction for the company’s electric SUV range.
Its proportions are defined by a long wheelbase, short overhangs and an elegant sloping roofline, creating a silhouette that feels sportier than a conventional SUV without abandoning everyday practicality.
At the front, BMW’s familiar kidney grille has been reinterpreted alongside the headlights as a single design feature. The optional illuminated BMW Iconic Glow treatment adds another distinctive element, while slim L-shaped rear lights and a sculpted spoiler complete the contemporary appearance.
Aerodynamic efficiency has also influenced the design, with a drag coefficient of 0.23 contributing to the vehicle’s impressive claimed range.
Customers will initially be able to choose from nine exterior colours, including Eucalyptus Green, Fire Red and Polarized Grey. Further finishes, including Frozen Pure Red and Frozen Ocean Wave Blue, are planned from March 2027.
Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse, BMW Compact and Midsize Class, said of the new model:
Its striking proportions, elegant coupé silhouette and Neue Klasse technologies combine to create a truly distinctive character.

The emphasis on design is clear. BMW is positioning the iX4 not simply as another electric SUV, but as a vehicle intended to appeal to drivers who value individuality and visual presence.
Inside the BMW iX4: Contemporary Luxury Meets Technology
Inside, the iX4 introduces BMW’s latest approach to digital luxury, combining a minimalist cockpit with advanced technology and carefully considered materials.
A panoramic glass roof is fitted as standard, extending across the cabin to create a light, open environment, while the long wheelbase allows generous passenger space across both rows.
The centrepiece is BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by the company’s new Operating System X.
Rather than relying solely on a conventional dashboard display, the system brings together several technologies designed to keep information accessible without overwhelming the driver. These include a 17.9-inch central display, a panoramic information display stretching across the lower windscreen and an optional 3D Head-Up Display.
The system is complemented by an intelligent voice assistant and personalisation features, allowing drivers to tailor elements of the digital experience.
M Sport specification is included as standard on the UK launch models, bringing 20-inch alloy wheels, heated electrically adjustable front seats, ambient lighting and contemporary upholstery.
For those seeking a more indulgent specification, optional features include Merino leather upholstery, massage seats and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.
The iX4 also retains practical appeal, offering 490 litres of boot capacity, expandable to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded.
Up to 514 Miles of Electric Range
Although the iX4 makes a strong visual statement, its battery technology is equally significant.
BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive system introduces new battery architecture and more efficient electric motors, with the manufacturer claiming approximately 30% more driving range and 30% faster charging compared with its previous-generation technology.
The iX4 50 xDrive offers the longest claimed range in the line-up, at up to 514 miles under WLTP testing.
Its 108.7 kWh usable battery supports charging at up to 400 kW, potentially adding 240 miles of range in ten minutes when connected to a suitable rapid charger.
BMW also states that a charge from 10% to 80% can take approximately 21 minutes under appropriate conditions.
These figures are particularly interesting for luxury electric vehicle buyers, for whom the ability to undertake longer journeys without frequent charging stops can be an important consideration.
However, real-world range will depend on factors including temperature, driving style, vehicle specification and road conditions.
Three Versions, Including a 612 hp Performance Model
The BMW iX4 will initially be offered in two UK variants, with a more powerful M Performance model following in spring 2027.
| Model | Power | Range (WLTP) | UK price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| iX4 40 xDrive | 374 hp | 396 miles | £60,170 |
| iX4 50 xDrive | 469 hp | 514 miles | £66,075 |
| iX4 M60 xDrive | 612 hp | 483 miles | TBC |
| Figures are provisional. Prices are UK on-the-road prices. |
The forthcoming M60 xDrive will sit at the top of the range, offering 612 hp and accelerating from 0–62 mph in a claimed 3.9 seconds.
Alongside the additional performance, it will introduce distinctive M styling elements, larger alloy wheels and an upgraded driving experience.
For drivers more interested in comfort, efficiency and everyday usability, the two launch variants offer a balance of electric performance and practicality.

When Will the BMW iX4 Be Available in the UK?
The new BMW iX4 is available to order through BMW retailers across the UK, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin on 6 March 2027.
Prices start at £60,170 for the iX4 40 xDrive M Sport, rising to £66,075 for the iX4 50 xDrive M Sport.
Pricing for the range-topping M60 xDrive will be announced closer to its arrival in spring 2027.
BMW Group will manufacture the vehicle at its Debrecen plant in Hungary alongside the iX3. According to BMW, the facility uses electricity sourced from renewable energy and operates without fossil fuels during normal vehicle production.

The Love Lux Life View

Luxury electric vehicles are no longer defined purely by how far they can travel on a single charge.
Design, comfort, technology and the overall driving experience are playing an increasingly important role in what buyers expect from a premium electric car.
The BMW iX4 brings these elements together in a package that feels deliberately more expressive than a traditional SUV, without overlooking the practical demands of everyday driving.
Its long claimed range and rapid-charging capabilities are certainly impressive, but the panoramic interior, distinctive silhouette and opportunities for personalisation are equally interesting.
Perhaps the most compelling aspect of the iX4 is that BMW is making electric mobility feel less like a compromise and more like a genuine design choice.
With UK deliveries beginning in March 2027, it will be interesting to see how the new model performs when those promises meet the road.
