A New Chapter in Bentley’s 107-Year History

Since its founding in 1919, Bentley has developed a reputation for combining exceptional performance with British craftsmanship and an unmistakable sense of occasion.

The arrival of the Torcal represents a significant change in the company’s approach to automotive engineering, introducing a fully electric powertrain without abandoning the characteristics that have traditionally defined the marque.

Unlike an electric version of an existing model, the Torcal introduces an entirely new vehicle to Bentley’s portfolio, with a fresh exterior design and interior technology intended to influence future cars.

Bentley Chairman and CEO Dr Frank-Steffen Walliser described the importance of the new model during its unveiling:

Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters.

The company has positioned the Torcal as an important foundation for its next generation of vehicles, bringing together contemporary technology and the traditional craftsmanship for which its Crewe operations are recognised.

A New Design Direction for Bentley

Under the direction of Robin Page, Bentley’s design team has created a luxury SUV that introduces a more streamlined and contemporary aesthetic while retaining familiar elements of the brand’s design heritage.

The Torcal features a long wheelbase, relatively short overhangs and a distinctive front profile, with sculpted bodywork designed to create a sense of strength without excessive decorative detailing.

One of its most recognisable features is the illuminated Floating Diamond Grille, which uses 76 individually applied diamond-shaped LED elements to create a contemporary interpretation of Bentley’s traditional front grille.

The diamond motif continues throughout the vehicle, appearing in the lighting, interior finishes and decorative details.

At approximately five metres long, the Torcal is shorter than the Bentayga, yet its proportions have been developed to provide generous interior accommodation alongside a more compact urban footprint.

The model also introduces Bentley’s redesigned winged emblem, reinforcing the sense that the Torcal represents a new design chapter rather than simply a change in powertrain.

British Craftsmanship Meets a New Generation of Materials

While electric performance is central to the Torcal’s identity, its interior reflects Bentley’s continued emphasis on materials, craftsmanship and personalisation.

The cabin combines traditional leather, finely finished veneers and polished metal with a new generation of materials developed specifically for the vehicle.

Among the most interesting is a 100% Merino wool automotive fabric created in collaboration with Fox Brothers, the historic Somerset textile manufacturer.

The material introduces a new option for Bentley interiors, combining a softer, breathable textile finish with the durability required for automotive use.

Contemporary wood treatments and brushed metal finishes further expand the available interior combinations, while Bentley’s established approach to handcraftsmanship remains central to the cabin.

Technology has also been integrated with an emphasis on passenger comfort. Curved OLED displays sit alongside tactile physical controls, while the newly designed seats feature 16-way electrical adjustment, heating, ventilation and massage functionality.

Optional wellness features can adjust seating pressure and temperature during longer journeys, reflecting a broader shift towards more personalised passenger environments.

Rather than allowing digital technology to dominate the interior, Bentley has attempted to balance its capabilities with the traditional materials and physical details that distinguish its vehicles.

Electric Performance Without Compromising Comfort

The Torcal introduces a fully electric powertrain designed to deliver the effortless acceleration expected of a Bentley.

The performance-focused Torcal S produces up to 876 bhp and 1,350 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0–62 mph in approximately 2.9 seconds.

Its dual-motor configuration provides all-wheel drive, while advanced active suspension and all-wheel steering are designed to combine agility with the comfort associated with the manufacturer’s grand touring models.

The Torcal is equipped with a 113 kWh usable battery, with Bentley quoting a maximum range of up to 375 miles under the WLTP testing cycle. Final range and consumption figures remain subject to applicable approval procedures.

Rapid charging is another important feature. At a compatible 400 kW charging station, Bentley says the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 16 minutes under suitable conditions.

For a vehicle intended to combine everyday practicality with longer-distance travel, these capabilities are an important part of Bentley’s attempt to translate its traditional grand touring philosophy into an electric format.

Creating a New Sound for an Electric Bentley

One of the more unusual elements of the Torcal is its approach to sound.

Bentley has developed a new audio experience known as Bentley Dynamic Symphony, designed to provide a distinctive connection between the driver and the vehicle.

Rather than simply reproducing the sound of a conventional engine, the system incorporates recordings of real musical instruments, including drums, viola and bass guitar.

Inspired by the character of Bentley’s historic V8 engines, the composition responds to acceleration and vehicle speed, creating an evolving soundtrack intended to complement the electric driving experience.

Drivers can increase the soundtrack’s intensity through the vehicle’s Sport setting or switch it off entirely for a quieter journey.

The system offers an interesting example of how luxury car manufacturers are exploring new ways to retain emotional appeal as traditional combustion-engine characteristics disappear.

Built in Crewe: What the Torcal Means for Cheshire

Beyond its technological significance, the Torcal represents an important development for Bentley’s historic manufacturing base in Crewe.

The company has committed £350 million to upgrading its Cheshire facilities, including a dedicated electric vehicle production line within a building originally dating from 1938.

The investment forms part of a wider programme to modernise Bentley’s manufacturing operations while retaining the specialist skills associated with its handcrafted vehicles.

More than 4,000 employees work at the Crewe headquarters, making Bentley one of the area’s most significant employers.

The Torcal will be manufactured alongside existing combustion-engine and hybrid models, combining established production expertise with the new technologies required for electric vehicle manufacturing.

The project also involves Bentley’s wider network of British suppliers, underlining the continuing role of UK manufacturing and specialist craftsmanship in the development of the company’s future vehicles.

For a brand whose identity is closely connected to Crewe, the decision to manufacture its first electric car at its longstanding headquarters is particularly significant.

Bentley Torcal: UK Price and Availability

The Torcal made its global debut in September 2026, with production expected to begin at Bentley’s Crewe facility in 2027.

UK automotive publications have reported a starting price of approximately £173,300 for the Torcal, rising to around £199,300 for the Torcal S, although customers should confirm current specifications and final pricing directly with Bentley.

The new model joins the manufacturer’s existing luxury car portfolio as a fully electric alternative, providing customers with an additional choice alongside its hybrid and combustion-engine vehicles.

The arrival of the Torcal represents far more than Bentley introducing an electric motor to its portfolio. It offers an indication of how one of Britain’s most established luxury car manufacturers intends to preserve its identity while adapting to a changing automotive landscape.

What makes the vehicle particularly interesting is the attention given to the experience of ownership, from the introduction of new British-made textiles to the carefully developed interior atmosphere and distinctive approach to sound.

While its performance figures are undoubtedly impressive, the Torcal’s long-term significance may lie in how successfully Bentley translates its traditional craftsmanship and sense of occasion into an electric vehicle.

For Cheshire, the development carries additional importance. Bentley’s continued investment in Crewe demonstrates the role that established manufacturing expertise can play in developing new technologies, ensuring that the skills associated with British luxury motoring remain relevant for future generations.

As Bentley begins its next chapter, the Torcal provides a compelling example of how innovation and heritage can coexist within modern luxury.
